Music students build industry links

First year Music students got the opportunity to extend their industry links and get expert advice at one of the north west’s biggest music conferences.

The annual Off The Record conference in Manchester ran over two days and focused on innovation and connecting industry professionals with emerging artists. Brian Campbell, Lecturer in Music says: “By attending industry events like this our students get an opportunity to begin to learn the art of networking with industry contacts.

“They also gain an incredible amount of information. Panel events such as ‘How to get a job in the music industry’, ‘How to break a band in 10 weeks’ and ‘Addressing the gender balance in the music industry’ have given students great insight into current key issues within the music industry.”

Students also had a further opportunity to seek advice from a number of bands and artists, including Cabbage and False Heads.  In these sessions they could hear about their career experiences and ask for advice to help develop their own careers as they start out in the music industry.
