If you’re passionate about the performing arts and have skills in art, design or technology, our Design for Performance and Technical Theatre courses are still accepting applications for September.
These courses train you in the skills needed to make a performance possible, working behind the scenes to pull together all elements of what’s happening onstage. Edward Pinner, programme manager for Technical Theatre and Design for Performance, explains. “The Technical Theatre and Design for Performance courses allow you to learn about and experience a number of the essential ‘back stage’ roles that contribute to the staging of live performances in the theatre, and which relate directly to roles in the film and television industry.
“These roles include: Lighting Designer, Costume Maker, Sound Technician, Stage Manager, Lighting Operator, Sound Designer, Wardrobe Manager, Costume Designer, Prop Maker, Lighting Technician … and many more.”
Once students complete the course they can go onto Higher Education or conservatoire study to develop these skills further. Student destinations have included Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Institute of the Arts Barcelona, Leeds Conservatoire, Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Royal Northern College of Music.
