Statement from UAL:

Summer 2020 results update

UAL Awarding Body recently announced that this year we could not fairly determine grades based on final major project units completed, or partially completed, during school and college closures. Since then we have been working urgently with the qualifications regulators to agree a way forward for students and centres affected by closures.

The Secretary of State for Education issued an instruction on 9 April 2020, confirming that Ofqual and Awarding Organisations should work on grade estimation as an alternative approach for awarding vocational qualifications like ours, which support progression to FE and HE. This direction was welcomed by qualification regulators Ofqual. We are currently working with them on the details of this model.

The government have issued detailed guidance surrounding Summer 2020 results for vocational qualifications. Our expectation is that regulators and government will make decisions regarding the categorisation of these vocational qualifications over the next few days. This information will enable us to finalise our approach to grade estimation for Summer 2020.

Centres delivering UAL Awarding Body qualifications should therefore expect communication from us during the week commencing 11 May with an initial overview of the process and timelines to enable planning. This will be followed by more detailed guidance in week commencing 18 May.
