Alumni spotlight: Acting

“My training at LIPA Sixth Form College enhanced and encouraged my ideas for my future.”

Ellie Begley’s interest in physical theatre was stimulated by movement classes as part of her studies at LIPA Sixth Form College (LSFC), which helped her to identify a future career path as a movement director. Alongside practical acting skills, she learned about the business side of the performing arts industry, and gained an appreciation of a number of roles within a professional acting company, such as lighting and stage management.

Ellie’s favourite memory of her time at LSFC was working on the end of year musical, Our House, in which she was able to combine acting with dancing and singing. She says: “I found a new relationship with a lot of fellow students because of the collaboration between courses that was needed to stage the musical.”

Having completed a Foundation course at East 15, Ellie is about to commence a BA (Hons) in Physical Theatre there, and has found that the skills leaned at LSFC have come in useful in her higher-level studies – “We’re encouraged to be multi-skilled practitioners, and I have a wide range of experiences from LSFC to draw on.”

Ellie would recommend the acting course at LSFC, and gives this advice: “You will be trained by experienced, caring staff, who will support you as you develop. Try your hardest at everything that comes your way – I wouldn’t be where I am today without the training I received at LSFC.”
