The Willy Russell Theatre was graced by a series of performances by our students in the Musical Theatre Showcase, which honoured some of the greatest composers who brought Broadway to life.

The set list was packed with music from well-known productions such as “Wicked”, “Mrs Doubtfire” and “The Great Gatsby”.

This student-led production was a true test of knowledge of their craft, as they created and controlled everything from lighting, costumes and promotional materials. Whilst working on this project the students were able to work to a professional standard, only adding to their vital experience. An exercise like this will play a substantial role in their learning and professional development which will lend well to future projects in life beyond LIPA Sixth Form College.

“I thoroughly loved this showcase and everything about it, from the pitches to the rehearsals, to the final production. Every minute was meaningful and will be cherished forever. I learnt many things throughout the whole process, including singing techniques and how to look after vocals when you’re having dress, tech and shows, all in one week. I also learned a lot of new dance skills, including how to quickly pick up choreo. Finally, performing in the showcase was most certainly the peak of the whole process, I really enjoyed being able to play all these different characters and be in such a variety of different songs and dances in one performance.” – Lucas Donaldson, first-year Musical Theatre student.

The students brought their creativity, passion, ability to collaborate as well as their positive mental attitude to this project which was truly evident in the smooth execution of the production.
