Yasmin appears on BBC One primetime

Music student Yasmin Deplidge has performed on BBC One’s Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, as the programme’s ‘Unexpected Star'

Her appearance on the programme was six months in the planning, and came as a complete surprise to Yasmin, who thought she was going to see a film at the cinema.

She said: “I thought I was in London to meet a potential new manager. On Sunday, when I was resting my voice, my mum suggested a trip to the cinema. When we arrived, I saw Dani Dyer from Love Island and asked for a selfie with her.

“It all became a bit surreal, but I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong. We took our seats in the cinema screen, and the start of the film came up. Suddenly, the screen fell away to reveal Michael McIntyre and the audience – over 2,000 of them.”

After her initial shock subsided, Yasmin – who’s in the second year of a UAL Extended Diploma in Music – was given time to change into a costume and readied for her appearance live on stage. She asked to sing Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys, performing with a full band and special effects on stage, and wowing the audience with her rendition.

“It was an amazing experience – people from the audience were coming up to me afterwards for selfies. I’m a bit nervous to watch myself on Saturday night, but I think I did a good performance, so hopefully it won’t be too nerve-wracking to watch.”

Yasmin plans to focus on her music once she leaves LIPA Sixth Form College next year, and will move to either London or Los Angeles to make the most of opportunities available.
