Study Programme

Bursaries

Students starting in September 2025 are able to apply for a bursary to help with the cost of their studies.

LIPA Sixth Form College is a provider of state-funded free education.

LIPA Sixth Form College receives a 16-19 bursary allocation each year to support students with essential costs associated with attending college. Bursary is available to those students who qualify either based on family income or being in receipt of certain state benefits, or linked to being under the care of local authority or care-experienced. We advise all prospective and current students to read the bursary policy below to check whether they may qualify.

Bursary applications can be received all year round. There is no deadline for applications as we recognise family circumstances can change at any point.

Students who qualify for bursary, may receive their bursary support in the following ways, depending on their individual circumstances:

- support with travel costs through travel passes or reimbursements of travel costs

- support with essential course equipment, stationery and clothing for college;

- support with costs of essential trips linked directly to their studies;

- support with essential IT equipment, such as loan of a college laptop to complete coursework at home.

- being provided with a college meal, paid for through qualifying for Free School Meals specifically, or through qualifying for bursary and expressing a need for a daily meal.

Students who live in Wales can also apply for Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA). Students  need to be between the ages of 16 and 18 at the time of applying and meet nationality and residency rules, as well as means-tested criteria.

Detailed information can be found below linked to the 16 to 19 bursary and EMA below.
