Matt Garrett

Teacher of Musical Theatre

Matt began his training at LIPA 4:19 in 2003 where he found a love of Musical Theatre. He worked professionally for the BBC and made his debut stage appearance in the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ben Elton musical The Boys in the Photograph. He went to train at Performers College, graduating in 2012 before undertaking his BA at Guildford School of Acting. His credits as a performer include X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, Hairspray (UK Tour), Worcester Repertory Theatre & New Adventures. Now working as an educator and choreographer Matt has taught at many prestigious institutes including Sylvia Young’s Theatre School, Urdang Academy, Creative Academy and Arden School of Theatre and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Having worked extensively as a Musical Theatre performer Matt understands the necessary skills required to work or continue study in the field. Matt believes the best way for students to learn in his lessons is to feel safe enough to take risks. Performing is about pushing boundaries and experimenting, but this must always be done in a space where it is safe to fall, something he always makes sure his room is.
